Research Report: How COVID-19 has disrupted employee work life, safety and their perception of employers

The pandemic has disrupted the workplace in many unforeseen ways. To better understand the impact on employee experience, Medallia surveyed more than 3,800 U.S. employees across a variety of industries and those furloughed or laid off as a result of COVID-19.

The research report outlines how the pandemic has disrupted the workforce and several areas of opportunity for organizations to improve the employee experience.

Key Findings:

  • Nearly 20% of respondents reported they had been furloughed or laid off as a result of the pandemic.
  • Companies that handled pandemic-related terminations well are twice as likely to attract former employees than those that did not (85% vs. 40%).
  • 70% of respondents working full or part time were satisfied with how employers responded to COVID-19, but the numbers were lower for the retail, travel and restaurant industries.
  • Only 44% of respondents working in an office, store or the field said they feel safe going into work.
