Medallia Employee Resource Groups: 2021 Year in Review

Medallia-ERGs-2021-blog-image

As we approach the end of the calendar year, everyone’s being inundated with personalized 2021 year-in-reviews, such as Spotify Wrapped and Instagram Playback — giving us a fun way of looking back on the year. We decided to do our own take on this by looking back at some of the wonderful things the Medallia Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) have accomplished this year, which have included month-long Black History Month programing brought to us by BAM (Black at Medallia), and monthly town halls featuring speakers such as Holla Back, Hijas del Campo, Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart, and Dr. Carlos Santos, to name a few.

Our ERGs also supported their communities by giving back during our Global Week of Giving in partnership with Alaya, the corporate giving & volunteering platform

Not familiar with our ERGs? Currently, Medallia sponsors nine officially chartered ERGs, which are employee-led communities open to everyone. These communities within Medallia drive initiatives to help ensure every voice is heard in an effort to truly foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Our communities include API@ (Asian Pacific Islanders at Medallia), BAM (Black at Medallia), Latinx, Medley (our cross-functional global community), Parents@, Q-Field (LGBTQ+), Vets@ (U.S. and international Veterans at Medallia), WIT (women in technology), and Women@ (women at Medallia).

There is so much more our communities have done this year, but if I listed them all out, I’ll go over word count and my editor won’t be too happy with me, so I will pause here and let you hear directly from ERG members themselves.

Wishing everyone Happy Holidays, abundance, joy, and prosperity in the New Year.

“It’s so fun to see another side to your coworkers, especially when it’s them being able to be their unapologetically whole selves and having that celebrated rather than minimized.”

Looking back on the year, what were some of your favorite moments?

I really enjoyed the learning events hosted by the ERGs, such as the Culture Map workshop held by Medley.

Why did you join an ERG?

Being new to Medallia, I joined the ERGs to meet new people and learn more about the culture.

What are you looking forward to seeing come out of our ERG communities in 2022?

I look forward to more learning opportunities, talks, and events. I also hope to explore possible partnerships with the L&D team and the ERGs.

Looking back on the year, what were some of your favorite moments?

Q-Field's annual talent show is always a favorite for me. While I'm just an observer, it's so fun to see another side to your coworkers, especially when it's them being able to be their unapologetically whole selves and having that celebrated rather than minimized.

Why did you join an ERG?

I joined an ERG to connect with people across the global Medallia team who I otherwise would not have had a chance to interact with. Having core commonalities is a great jumping off point, and it's always wonderful to be able to see the diverse communities that exist within Medallia that make you feel included.

What are you looking forward to seeing come out of our ERG communities in 2022?

More collaboration! Each ERG is wonderful on its own, but I think we have the capability to foster some honest conversations and plan some truly special events when we look at the intersectionality of these ERGs.

Looking back on the year, what were some of your favorite moments?

One of the my favorite moments was the Overcoming Challenges: Latinx Experiences in the Work Place where we had [company leaders] Mary Ainsworth, Tey Scott, Verónica Andrade, and Alberto Marino share their stories about how they have navigated their careers in corporate America and gave great insight on how to do so.

Why did you join an ERG?

I joined an ERG to find and help build a community of shared experiences in the Latinx community.

What are you looking forward to seeing come out of our ERG communities in 2022?

I am looking toward continued growth of the ERG and all the wonderful events/partnerships we have planned for 2022.

Looking back on the year, what were some of your favorite moments?

Being a part of the Military Service Panel and Fireside Chat was a highlight for me. I was able to work with other departments and people from other teams to develop the panel, as well as see other Medallian's backgrounds and experience with their military service and how they have transitioned that to use in civilian life and particularly here at Medallia. Basically, it was fun building it, participating in it, and then seeing it happen. It was also fun to get the various questions from those that listened and to see that even Leslie Stretch, President and CEO, was interested and watched the panel. It allowed me to share a part of me and my experiences that many Medallians weren’t aware of prior.

What are you looking forward to seeing come out of our ERG communities in 2022?

More opportunities for participation, support, and growth.

Why We Support ERGs

“ERGs are essential to building community, and supporting them — visibly, personally, professionally, and financially — empowers your employees and enriches your company culture,” says Lauren Jackman, SVP Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. “Our communities create opportunities for professional development, philanthropy, education, and also some of the most fun, creative, and cross-functional celebrations that we have in the company. “

We have barely scratched the surface of everything our communities have accomplished this year. They continue to impact Medallia through their passion, voices, insights, events, philanthropy, and programs — and they aren’t done yet! Be sure to follow us on Linkedin to always be up to date with our communities.
