Medallian Chioma (Chi) Nwafor wants to change the world. He and his wife are on their way to doing just that through their health & wellness mission.
At Medallia, we believe in “hiring the whole person” and fostering a culture where everyone knows they belong, is seen and has a voice. As part of our ongoing Medallia Life blog series, we not only want to bring you in on what it’s like to be a part of our team but also introduce you to the Medallians, the humans, the stories, the lives that make up Medallia.
In this sixth installment of the series, we sat down with Chioma (Chi) Nwafor, a Sales Director in the healthcare vertical. Chi shares with us his passion for health & wellness and the company he and his wife have launched with the mission of impacting the world through building healthy habits.
What brought you to Medallia?
My continued drive to help make a difference in the lives of others while leveraging technology brought me to Medallia in February of 2020.
How has working here made it possible for you to also pursue your passions outside of work?
Medallia makes it possible to be more than just a Medallian. Being a Medallian has empowered me to impact my community and the world in my own way. Setting up wellness workshops, educating as many people as I can to take charge of their health so that when the next pandemic strikes, they will have a fighting chance.
I hear you and your wonderful wife have launched a company. Can you tell readers the name and what your mission is?
We are tfal&chi and we created www.tfalandchi.com. Our Mission at tfal&chi is to inspire healthier lifestyles by sharing knowledge, practical tips and fostering a wellness mindset.
Can you give me a bit of your background as well as your wife’s?
My wife and I attended the same schools through college but never did meet until 30-plus years afterward. My wife is an infectious disease physician and currently the Regional Medical Director for ViiV Healthcare, a GlaxoSmithKline Company. We have four kids, two boys and two girls, and we both share a strong passion for giving back to society, changing our world, food and exercise as medicine.
What’s your biggest joy in working together as well as what are you most proud of in the launch of tfal&chi?
Biggest joy is doing this together as a couple. We are super proud of how organically we pulled this off. Long nights and weekends building a business and finally seeing it come to fruition.
What inspired you to go on this journey of starting your own business centered in wellness? And why wellness?
We have always been invested in wellness and changing the trajectory of preventable chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, complex cancers, heart disease, all of which are responsible for over 90 cents of every healthcare dollar. We chose this path, because we see ourselves as vessels of change.
During the pandemic people’s mental and physical health have started to deteriorate. How can one pull themselves out of this slump and build healthy habits while at home?
One, making healthy eating the easy choice. Two, having a purpose. Three, surrounding yourself with healthy and wellness-centered people. And finally four, moving a lot.
What are some tips or healthy habits you have adopted as a Medallian working from home?
Increasing mobility, increasing water intake, cooking more, spending quality time with my family.
What is the goal? What do you want people to walk away with after being a part of tfal&chi?
We want our movement to empower people to make their health a priority and to understand that a healthy lifestyle is sustainable.
Do you have a vision of partnering with Medallia? If so, how?
Sure! We are invested in growing this movement across all communities, most especially those we are connected with, such as Medallia and ViiV Healthcare. We would love to partner with Medallia through a variety of initiatives, including, but not limited to: educational, virtual cooking sessions, webinars and various other mediums.
What is a favorite wellness program of yours that Medallia currently offers?
Medallia offers a family-centered work-life balance as well as a pretty good Employee Assistance Program (EAP) program.
How does one become a part of your vision and join in on the amazing work you are doing? Where can you be found/reached?
Please visit us at www.tfalandchi.com to find out about who we are and what our mission is. We also sell merchandise in our store that is a vessel for the message we ascribe to. We also offer free discovery calls for anyone with further questions about our movement. Our movement is for anyone —any age and anywhere — who believes in the promotion of health as a way of life.
