Historic Collaboration Between GGI and GGFA, Major Company-Wide Initiatives Announced, More Than 40 Awards Given, Dramatic Member Success Stories Shared
Dallas, TX – (July 24, 2009) Rallying under the convention theme of“Right Here, Right Now,“more than 1,000 Gold’s Gym owners, corporate executives, staff, and vendors from 20 countries, 42 states and 600-plus gyms came to Las Vegas to celebrate the Gold’s Gym brand. Today they are back on the job and more prepared than ever before to improve the lives of the famed fitness chain’s members and communities.
For three days and nights, the group gathered at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas to share best practices, discuss business strategy and learn from top experts in the industry. The gathering was also an opportunity to celebrate excellence throughout the system including the achievements of franchisees and a select group of Gold’s Gym members.
“This year’s convention truly demonstrated the power, energy and enthusiasm of the Gold’s Gym brand,” said James Weaver, President and CEO of Gold’s Gym International. “It’s a new day at Gold’s Gym and our theme of ‘Right Here, Right Now’ spoke to the enormous opportunity we have in front of us at this moment in time. Working together with our franchisees, employees and vendors around the world, our vision is to become the preeminent solution to the world’s total health and fitness needs.”
Blair McHaney, President of the Gold’s Gym Franchisee Association, echoed Weaver’s enthusiasm. “The GGFA was thrilled to partner with GGI on the convention. Not only did franchisees and vendors get a look at new initiatives and resources, but they had the chance to witness the genuine, cooperative spirit of the GGFA and GGI.”
Several major initiatives were unveiled at the 2009 Gold’s Gym Convention including:
- The launch of a new “National Accounts Program” that will leverage the collective footprint of the Gold’s Gym brand to offer group discounts to large corporate employers and institutions
- The rollout of an exclusive Gold’s Gym Visual Fitness Plannerproduct as an innovative new tool to assist with the sales process.
- The signing of Mark and Mylene Dayrit as master franchisees for the Philippines. They have committed to develop a minimum of 26 gyms in that country.
- The formation of the International Franchisee Council, which will serve as a steering committee for Gold’s Gym International and its master franchisees around the world. The committee has already begun planning for the 5th annual master franchisee summit in Dallas.
In addition, the convention showcased a number of business-driving initiatives and resources including the Medallia/Vital Signs Customer Service Platform, Gold’s Gym’s proprietary member retention program, the company’s successful online lead generation program and new advertising materials which build on the successful “Know Your Own Strength” Campaign.
On the educational front, more than 50 seminars and roundtables were offered throughout the Convention. Ranging in topics from gym design to gym profitability, each presentation was designed to inform and spark discussion among Gold’s Gym stakeholders.
Finally, the convention wrapped up with the annual Gold’s Gym Awards Ceremony. More than 40 awards were given in a wide range of categories. The highlights included the “President’s Award” won by franchisees Bruce Ebel and Leo Gutierrez, the “Franchisee of the Year” won by partners Angel and Willy Banos, “U.S. Visionary of the Year” won by Eddie Dail, “International Visionary of the Year” won by Paul Kuebler, Jake Weinstock and Vladimir Grumlik, who own the territories of Russia, Eastern Europe and Iberia, and “Master Franchisee of the Year” won by Eiji Tezuka of Japan. The emotional pinnacle of the week was the award of the “Most Inspirational Member,” which went to Mike O’Connell of Pawtucket, RI. Mike lost an astounding 194 pounds and 20% body fat. Even more inspiring is the fact that Mike, a recovering alcoholic, used fitness and support from Gold’s Gym to change his life, battle his disease and fulfill a promise he made to his father on his deathbed that he would take care of his mother and their home.
In his words, “My life has been expanded limitlessly since the shift in thinking and living. The activities that I once believed to be nothing more than memories are now back in my life. New experiences that a short time ago were daydreams and fantasies are realities. For this chance at a new life I will be eternally grateful to Gold’s Gym.”
