Responsibilities:
Help implement our solution for clients. As a part of the Solutions group, I am able to achieve a really good balance between the tech and business sides. I interact with clients on a daily basis but also manage to do a lot of the back-end setup work as well.
Background:
Analyst at large IT consulting firm, engineering graduate of University of Michigan.
Advantages of consulting:
Opportunity to work on a variety of projects across multiple industries.
Disadvantages of consulting:
Flying out to a different client every week. When I was consulting, I actually got to know the people at the airport by name. That is not a good thing.
Contrast between Medallia and consulting:
Same variety of work, less travel. I work on different projects with multiple clients, which is very similar to the consulting lifestyle, but I am definitely happy to be local now.
Typical day at Medallia:
Depends. Some engagements require heavy client involvement where I could be speaking with the client on a daily or bi-weekly basis. Other clients are less interactive. We have one huge kick-off meeting and then we get busy setting up the system. So, what I do really depends—and I really like this variety.
Best aspect of job at Medallia:
Working on successful projects start to finish. The work I do is really exciting because you get to see the complete spectrum: you start with a business requirement and remain on the project until the application is actually rolled out to the client. Plus it’s neat seeing that clients are really happy with it—that’s really gratifying.
Interaction with Medallia team members:
Daily. Medallia is actually great about working in teams—especially during implementations—rather than having just one person take care of everything. I really enjoy working with others to solve problems.
Reason for choosing Medallia:
Its casual intensity. The people here are very laid-back, very flexible, but they are also very serious and passionate about the work that they do. I like that. Plus, I get to come to work in my jeans and a polo shirt.
Highlights of working for Medallia:
The advantages of a start-up without the pitfalls. We’ve kept the positive nature of a start-up company, even though we’ve been in business for eight years and profitable for the last seven. That is really unique. One of the pluses of a start-up is the flatness of the organization. You get a lot more responsibility because there are fewer layers in the corporate structure. You get to interact with all levels. For example, the other day I was talking to our CEO about how, at a high level, we could streamline certain processes within the company.
Reason Medallia attracts such great talent:
Its openness to ideas. Everyone is just so open to ideas, questioning what is the best way to accomplish something. And I mean no one’s idea is ever put down quickly. Every idea is questioned. I think it is just that free-thinking environment that is what really attracted me—and others—to Medallia.
